Between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, What?

Yesterday was Good Friday, tomorrow, Resurrection Sunday. But today, Sabbath, Jesus is in the tomb. Arms folded across chest, still.

That Sabbath of Passion weekend doesn’t get a lot of attention. For Jesus’ followers, it was a dark day. Devastation, depression, confusion, and fear is what they felt. Their Rescuer was dead.

But in heaven, far away from the gloom, there was a huge celebration. Angelic high fives. Fireworks. Hallelujah choruses. Jesus had conquered Evil, paid for sin, won back the Kingdom, redeemed this world.

“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

Colossians 2:15

On the cross, had cried out, “It is Finished!” before he died. Plan accomplished, forgiveness provided, universe secured, this world bought back.

Today, we hunker down in the Pandemic, but Heaven already won. We are stressed, afraid. But Paradise has a plan. There is optimism there. They see what we cannot. They are already celebrating the future.

We can believe it. The resurrected Christ is Lord. He reigns. Happy Sabbath, indeed!
